Vale Brent Field

The sudden passing of Brent Field on 24th August was a great shock to us all. His smiling face and friendly nature will be sorely missed around the club.

The following is the text of the eulogy given by Bruce Quail on behalf of the PRSC members at his Celebration of Life held on 9th September 2022.

Brent joined Perth Radio Sailing Club in January 2019. From the outset we noticed his approach was to do the best he could and his meticulous nature and attention to detail had him winning races in no time at all.

He loved to race hard but was one of the fairest competitors you could wish to race against. Brent was the Club Champion in the International One Metre class in 2021, he won the Digger's Plate trophy on Anzac Day this year and was well in the running to become Club Champion again this year. If you beat Brent, you had worked for it and deserved the victory because Brent wasn’t going to give an inch - or is that 2.54 centimetres in Brent speak?

He made friends with everyone in the club very quickly and easily, always willing to help others with advice and assistance when asked. Brent regularly displayed his fortitude and courage by looking beyond the present and joined our committee as a valued member last year then remaining on into this year.

He volunteered to take on a Class Measurer's qualification earlier this year and it was only the Club's reluctance to purchase the accurate equipment necessary to perform the function that this was not pursued.

One of Brent's last tasks for the Club was to inspect and choose a replacement rescue dinghy at the Peppermint Grove Shire disposal sale, to which he duly submitted an offer. He passed before the tender adjudication but the Shire, on hearing of Brent's passing, offered to donate the dinghy to the Club. We will be naming the dinghy 'Brent's Choice' and furthermore, we will be holding an annual regatta event in August every year, to be named the Brent Field Memorial Regatta and have set aside a perpetual trophy for this purpose.

Always a gentleman, always a terrific competitor and someone the club will miss greatly. Brent, may you have fair winds and following seas, till we meet again.
